Retreat Hosts

Izzy Holder

Izzy is a trauma-informed somatic and therapeutic yoga practitioner. Izzy discovered yoga as part of her recovery from severe mental and physical health struggles in her early 20’s - these experiences changed the trajectory of her life and set her out on a mission to support others in their healing, so no-one has to journey alone.

Izzy is deeply interested in the wisdom of the body, the nervous system, and neuroscience to support healing. Her spaces are warm, heartfelt, and inclusive - focused on how the shapes and movements feel, rather than rigid alignment.

She weaves together somatic, yogic, and earth-based wisdom, bringing together the spiritual and scientific to support truly holistic healing.

Grace Bowering

Grace’s love for yoga came through her fascination with yoga philosophy which she continues to study, practice and share for supportive self enquiry. Grace teaches an embodied approach to movement which is grounded in autonomy, freedom and in trusting the body's innate intelligence.

Grace offers philosophical teachings to encourage both intrigue & exploration into yoga beyond the poses. She teaches in a playful and supportive way which encourages slowing down and tuning in. Her classes offer space, movements and breathing techniques which support the nervous system and are open to all levels of experience and bodies.

More About the Practices…

  • The word somatic comes from the Greek word soma, meaning “body” or “living body in its wholeness”.

The term Somatics was coined in the 70s by Thomas Hanna, to describe the practice of experiencing the living body from within; as a modality to support the re-integration of body and mind in a society that often pulls them apart and creates a sense of separation.

Somatic practices support the reconnection to our bodies (our home and only vessel for experiencing this life) in a world that has conditioned us stay stuck in our heads.

‘Somatics’ describes practices that integrate the body and mind, or all spheres of our being, including the spiritual sphere, our connection to each other, and the earth.

Somatic practices primarily focus on strengthening the body-mind connection, as we reclaim our capacity to feel and work with the natural intelligence of the body. This has an abundance of healing and transformative properties.

  • Embodied Yoga supports us to prioritise how things feel over how they look. It supports us to reclaim our capacity to feel and sense into our bodies.

The practices are inclusive and accessible utilizing props and choice to support all bodies.

  • Mantra is a practice of sharing our voices as a collective. It can be  the repetition of Sanskrit or English phrases, as well as names of the goddesses.

Mantra is a powerful practice on physical, spiritual and emotional levels - supporting us to reclaim our voices, co-regulate and reconnect to the divine.

There of course will be no pressure to share your voice - there is also power in listening.

  • Embodied dance is a way of dancing that is free, intuitive - moving away from culture fixated on what things look like and supporting us to reclaim freedom in our bodies.

Humans have used danced and song as forms of expression, connection and release since the beginning of time. The western world has suppressed this.

Embodied dance offers space for expression, regulation, release, and cultivating joy.

If this is new to do - don’t worry, you’ll be guided, held, and supported in your choices.
